Local Love– La Flor de Jazmin: The Plant People Are Back!

April 20, 2025

In Mexico — particularly in this lush tropical region — we’re fortunate to have a stunning variety of plants.

And our climate is so nice for plants that it’s actually HARD to kill them, so people like me (i.e., people without a green thumb) can actually have a lovely indoor or outdoor garden.

But where do you find plants around here?

There is a nice vivero (nursery) in town, but it’s hit and miss and some folks find it pricey. You can also take a drive into Leona Vicario and visit the many nurseries in that area for a nice selection at a better price. (But this can be tricky if you don’t have your own car and/or don’t feel confident going on a little adventure)

OR a few times a year, we are so lucky that the folks from vivero La Flor de Jazmin load up their wares, bring them to town and set up shop in the Colonia.

From Santo Domingo community to Puerto Morelos

Our friends from Santo Domingo – which is close to Valladolid in the Yucatan – bring us a wide variety of plants — indoor and outdoor varieties — including an amazing selection of flowering plants.

You’ll find everything from simple beauties like succulents and air plants to more sophisticated ones like anthuriums, Pestañitas, and Moses’ cradles.

They’re all ready to be transplanted into your home, bringing that perfect tropical touch to your coastal retreat.

How to find them?

They’re located in the median on Zetina Gazca Street, right across from “Xolos Restaurant.” You can visit from 7 AM to 7 PM!

If you’re planning to visit the nursery in Santo Domingo, just send them a quick WhatsApp message at (+52 998 769 1873) before you go to make sure they’re available, they are located at carretera federal Cancun-Mérida, and you can find their location on Google maps under “Vivero Copa de Oro”.

That said, if you’re around these days, I highly recommend making a quick visit before they leave. If you can’t make it this week, never fear, they will be back in June as well.

Here is their Facebook link so you can stay updated!

Now you can give your home those perfect Boho-Beach vibes with local plants at AMAZING (trust me) prices, all while supporting the kindest, hardest-working people around!
