We are so excited to be teaming up with the tireless and amazing Jorie Maloney and her MexiCAN Compassion Project once again, this time to fill the shelves of the kindergarten library!
Earlier this year you may remember that we donated $500 USD to help upgrade the library and kitchen at the Cinco de Mayo kindergarten in the Colonia of Puerto Morelos. When Gabriel and I visited the school we were amazed at what the administrator and teachers were doing with so few resources. It was sad, but also inspiring. Our donation was used to perform some much needed maintenance on the library building and to buy some furniture for the interior.
The kids who attend this kindergarten tend to come from an area called the “invasion”, which is an area of what can only be described as mostly paper shacks, dirt roads and abject poverty. In many cases the children are hungry and, unfortunately, not likely to attend school much beyond kindergarten due to the cost.
We left the kindergarten wanting to fix everything for these kids, but knowing we can only do so much. So we are starting with the library and kitchen, and so happy that Jorie and MexiCAN Compassion Project are busy leading the efforts to help children in the area.
For the month of June we are doing a book drive to help finish the library at the kindergarten! Our goal is 250 books in Spanish and English.
Donations can be made in the following ways:
